1. Fall into one's lap
If something good falls into your lap, it happens to you without any effort on your part.
(राम्रो कुरा आफ्नो काखमा घोप्टो भने, यो तपाईंको भाग मा कुनै पनि प्रयास बिना हुन्छ)
E. g. She's not making much effort to find work. Does she think a job is going to fall into her lap?
2. Slim chance!
The expression slim chance is used to indicate that something is not very likely to happen.
(अभिव्यक्ति कम मौका कुरा हुन धेरै सम्भावना छैन भनेर संकेत गर्न प्रयोग गरिएको छ)
E. g. The boss is thinking of me for the job? Slim chance!
3. Free ride
Someone who gets a free ride benefits from a collective activity without participating in it.
(भाग न लिइकन एक सामूहिक गतिविधि बाट फ्री लाभ हुने)
E. g. Only those who share the work can share the benefits - nobody gets a free ride!
4. Get a second bite at the cherry
This expression means that you get a second opportunity to do or try something.
यो अभिव्यक्ति तपाईंलाई दोस्रो मौका केहि प्रयास गर्न वा प्राप्त गर्न लागि दिएको छ भने त्यसलाई जताउन्छ)
E. g. He was eliminated in the semi - finals, but he'll get a second bite at the cherry next year.
5. Off - chance
If you do something on the off chance, you think there might be a slight possibility of success.
(तपाईं बन्द मौका मा केहि गर्नुहुन्छ भने, तपाईं त्यहाँ सफलता को अलिकति सम्भावना हुन सक्छ लाग्छ)
E. g. I went into the supermarket on the off chance that I would find a map.
6. Jump on bandwagon
If a person or organisation jumps on the bandwagon, they decide to seize the opportunity and do something when it is already successful or fashionable.
(एक व्यक्ति वा संगठन bandwagon मा फड्को भने, तिनीहरूले मौकाको फाइदा उठाउने निर्णय गरेर यसलाई पहिले नै सफल वा सुशील हुँदा केहि)
E. g. When organic food became popular, certain stores were quick to jump on the bandwagon and promote it.
7. Luck of the draw
To refer to something that happens as the luck of the draw means that it is the result of pure chance, with no possibility of choice.
E. g. The samples distributed varied in size and value; it was the luck of the draw.
8. Pot luck
If you take pot luck, you accept whatever is available without knowing what it will be like.
(पारीनाम थाह बिना जे हुन्छ त्यसलाई स्वीकार गर्नु)
E. g. We were so hungry we decided to take pot luck and stopped at the first restaurant we saw.
9. Make hay while the sun shines
This expression is used as an encouragement to take advantage of a good situation which may not last.
(यो अभिव्यक्ति सदैव नहुने राम्रो अवस्थाको फाइदा लिन प्रोत्साहनको रूपमा प्रयोग गरिन्छ)
E. g. Successful athletes are advised to make hay while the sun shines.
10. More by accident than by design
Something which happens more by accident than by design is done without deliberate intention.
(केही जानिजानि इरादा बिना गरिन्छ)
E. g. I became an interpreter more by accident than design; nobody else could speak the language of the refugees.
11. Murphy's law
Referring to Murphy's law expresses a sentiment of bad luck and the idea that if anything can go wrong, it will.
(खराब भाग्य हो भने केहि गलत जानु छ भने जान्छ नै भन्ने विचार व्यक्त गर्छ)
E. g. We've tried to prepare for every possible incident, but remember Murphy's law . . . !
