Than vs. Then

People get confused between 'Then' and 'Than' all the time and end up misusing them which can be a real embarrassment. Knowing your grammar correctly brings you across as a more confident person. It is very important to know the real meaning of the words 'Than' and 'Then' before using them.

Than is used when you are drawing comparisons between things or people. Than is also a word that follows words like 'other', 'rather', 'less' , 'more'.

E. g.

I am taller than her.

This is softer than that.

You should clear out the confusion rather than assuming things.

I want more than that.

Other than that I have nothing to say.

Give me less than one spoon.

Then is used when you are talking about something related to time, it is followed by words like 'until', 'since' or phrases such as 'back then', just then'.

E. g.

I will be back in an hour, until then, finish this.

She has been unwell since then.

Back then things were so simple.

Just then it began to rain.

It will take a little time to master these but keep practicing and you will get there.
