1. Half past (దాటి అరగంట): The standard way to tell the time when it's X:30 is “half past X”. (X దాటి అరగంట) For example, 5:30 is “half past five”, 7:30 is “half past seven”, and so on (or, if precision is required, there's nothing wrong with saying “five thirty”, “seven thirty”, etc. ).
2. Quarter to (కి పావుగంట): So a quarter of an hour is 15 minutes. If the time is 12:45 we say it is quarter to 1. (ఒకటికి పావు గంట ఉంది)
3. Quarter past (దాటి పావు గంట): 15 mins past the hour. If the time is 1:15, we say it is quarter past 1.
4. Noon (మధ్యాహ్నం): twelve o'clock in the day; midday. It is 12 p. m.
5. O'clock (గంట): used for indicating position or direction as if on a clock dial that is oriented vertically or horizontally.
E. g. It is 3 O'clock.
The 12 - hour clock is a time convention in which the 24 hours of the day are divided into two periods: a. m. (from the Latin, ante meridiem, meaning before midday) and p. m. (post meridiem, meaning past midday).
6. AM: The time before midday. If it is 6 in the morning, we can say, it is 6 AM.
7. PM: The time after midday. If it is 6 in the evening, we can say, it is 6 PM.
'To' in time, is used for subtraction. For example, quarter to 1, is 12:45. 'Past' is used for addition. For example, quarter past 1, is 1:15.
8. Ten to three: This would mean - 2:50. There are ten minutes left to 3.
9. Ten past three: This would mean - 3:10.
10. IST: Indian Standard Time is the time observed throughout India and Sri Lanka
11. GMT: Greenwich Mean Time or GMT is the clock time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London.
Indian Standard Time is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
