We all feel more hungry in winters than in summers, every wondered why? It is very common for our appetite to increase in the cold weather, our body temperatures drop during the winters due to the cold weather and our body feels there aren’t enough nutrients in the blood to keep us warm, and therefore it is the body’s natural mechanism to demand more food in order to stay warm.
How does the body know it is cold outside?
All muscle activity in the body requires blood and when the temperatures cool down and you feel cold, the body begins to shiver, shivering is a muscle activity as well and therefore causes increase in the blood flow. Nutrients that reach the body through food provide energy to the body, which means when you are warm; your body has enough nutrients in the blood.
Eating more can mean weight gain; nutritionists say that sometimes hunger is just a side effect of thirst, we tend to stay warm in our beds and blankets during the cold weather and we tend to drink less water, the trick is to stay hydrated and keep physical activity on to stay warm.
Since it is the onset of winters, avoid heavy foods and winter munchies, whenever your body demands food, fruits, salads and other fiber rich foods should do the trick to keep you warm as well as keep your weight in check.
