Many and Much indicate a large quantity of something. However, both the quantifiers are commonly misunderstood and confused.
Many modifies things that can be counted or in other words it modifies countable nouns.
People is a plural noun always preceded by many, and never by much.
For example:
How many students are there in your class?
How many chocolates do you need?
There are many exotic resorts on this island.
Much modifies things that cannot be counted or in other words, much modifies uncountable nouns.
Hint: information, luggage (baggage), and equipment are uncountable nouns and therefore are always singular.
For example:
I was not able to sleep as I drank too much coffee last night.
How much money do you have?
Tina gossips too much.
