What are clauses?
clause is group of words that includes subject and predicate.

clause can be distinguished from phrase, which does not contain subject and verb (e. g. in the morning, drinking from the bowl).

Clauses are mainly of two types:
1) Independent clause
2) Dependent clause

Independent clause:
An independent clause, also called main clause, is like sentence. It consists of subject and predicate and can stand alone like sentence. It makes sentence meaningful.
Example:
He likes to play hockey.
They are friends.

Dependent clause:
dependent clause, also called subordinate clause, unlike an independent clause, it cannot stand alone as sentence and doesn't make sense.
Example:
because we are friends.
that you gave me.
