E. g. She said the poor must tighten their belts.
5. To work for peanuts: working for a small amount of money.
E. g. I need a raise! I'm sick of still working for peanuts after three years!
6. To go broke: undergo financial collapse, lose most or all of one's money.
E. g. The company's about to go broke.
7. To be flat broke: not having any money at all
E. g. I can't help you, I'm flat broke.
