It is an exceptional setting and each summer it brings the greatest national and international artists to the heart of the Cité Médiévale in Carcassonne. The festival has theatre, opera, classical music, dance, and concerts. It is an example of cultural diversity which gives this Festival a unique identity.
Founded in 2005, the festival has more than 120 shows and concerts totally free of charge are held all over the city. It welcomes local artists and French and international stars: jazz, French songs, rap, electro, current types of music, not to forget classical music, theatre, dance, and so on. The attendance rate increasing year by year is evidence of the public’s craze for the fest.
The Carcassonne Festival has been running for over 10 years and is well known as one of the biggest festivals in the south of France. The festival is a cultural melting pot and every summer brings art in all forms to the heart of the medieval city, Carcassonne - a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The event attracted almost 200, 000 visitors in 2015 with performances from the likes of Johnny Hallyday and Partick Bruel. Previous years have seen famous international artists attend including Elton John, Lana Del Rey, Status Quo, Marylin Manson, Alice Cooper, David Guetta, Smashing Pumpkins, Artic Monkeys, Ben Harper, The Beach Boys and John Newman.
2015 marked the 10 year anniversary of the famous festival including the inauguration of a new theatre that can accommodate more than 10, 000 people. The festival is one of the top 10 French festivals thanks to a line - up of exceptional artists, year after year.
