The 8th of May is celebrated every year as the birthday anniversary of founder of the Red Cross or the World Red Cross day.
Henry Dunant was the founder of the Red Cross as well as the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), born in the Geneva in the year 1828. He was the most famous person and became the recipient of 1st Nobel Peace Prize.
World Red Cross Day is an annual event celebration, celebrating the principles of “International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement”. It is celebrated every year to pay tribute to the volunteers who participate in the event and their contribution is welcomed for helping people in need.
What is the Red Cross Society?
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement or society was born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavors, in its international and national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all people.
It has 7 basic fundamentals that it runs by, namely:

- Voluntary service

- Universality
Red Cross day 2018
In the States of Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chandigarh and Kolkata, celebrations were made by honoring the Red Cross Volunteers. The volunteers were felicitated with complete gusto and their altruistic outlook towards the Society was acknowledged. Governors and Ministers of the respective states also attended the programs and all this got a good coverage in the leading newspapers and television channels throughout the country. Message on the theme and radio talks were also relayed by many stations of All India Radio.
