Connotation (noun) means an idea or feeling which accompany a word and generates a feeling for a person which can either be 'positive or negative'.

For E.g- The word : 'dishonesty' means 'lying to someone', so when we hear this word, it arouses a feeling of cheating, falsehood, and hence has a negative connotation (feeling).

Let us look at another example: 'Dutiful' means 'someone who is responsible', this word immediately arouses a positive feeling, and hence has a positive connotation (feeling).
