Dalam bentuk ayat pasif, 'was / were' tidak boleh diletakkan selepas 'not'.
Eg: The weather was not nice yesterday. - Cuaca semalam tidak begitu baik.

Saya pergi ke sekolah semalam. = I went to school yesterday.
Sini perlu menggunakan past tense 'go', iaitu went.
Saya tidak pergi ke sekolah semalam. = I did not go to school yesterday.
Dalam ayat penerangan past tense, orang dikenali sebagai 'I, We, They, He, She', bentuk kata kerja selepas did not tidak mengubah.
