In remembrance of valiant soldiers on the 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said "the country will never forget the fearlessness with which they gave a befitting and unforgettable reply to the intruders. "
In a series of tweets he also lauded the firmness demonstrated by the then political leadership (NDA - led government) which ensured victory in Kargil.
"We recall with pride, the firmness demonstrated by India's political leadership in 1999, which ensured a decisive victory in Kargil.
India will never forget the fearlessness with which our courageous soldiers gave a befitting and unforgettable reply to the intruders, " tweeted Modi.
"On Kargil Vijay Diwas, I bow to every valiant soldier who fought for India till the very last breath.
Their heroic sacrifices inspire us, " he further tweeted.
On July 26, 1999, India successfully retook the high outposts that were lost to Pakistani intruders to end the Kargil war.
