With the recent spate of earthquakes and other large - scale natural disasters reported from different parts of the world, 90 per cent of respondents in a recent poll wanted basic rescue equipment for their districts.
However, as per public reports, 95 per cent of the districts in India do not have basic rescue equipment required in case of a natural disaster.
With the cost of this equipment running upto Rs 20 lakh, 84 per cent of the respondents in a poll conducted by citizen engagement platform LocalCircles believed that CSR money from corporates should be deployed for purchases as well as for education and awareness, if the state governments do not deploy funds for disaster management.
More than 8, 000 citizens took part in this survey and majority said that it should be made mandatory for the state governments to ensure every district has modern rescue equipment.
"LocalCircles hopes that the government will take immediate action on this and make the districts prepared for handling natural disasters well, " it said in a statement.
