As many as 3, 552 cases of cyber crime have been registered in Karnataka in the past two and a half years. There has not been one conviction.
"We are not able to reach the root of the problem. We are not able to crack any of these cases, " said home minister G. Parameshwara said in the Legislative Council today.
Replying to a query by BJP MLC V. Somanna, the minister said the number of cyber crimes has increased in the past five to six years.
"In order to tackle them, the state government has started eight cyber police stations. If any cyber crime - related cases come to general police stations, they will be referred to these police stations. Very soon cyber crime police stations will come up in all the police commissionerates, " he added.
Paramaeshwar said most of the cases relate to phishing, and job fraud. There should be a separate law as this involves inter - state and international crimes. The central government should bring a law on this. " he added.
