The 35 - year - old Spaniard needed one hour and 34 minutes to beat World No.
80 Jeremy Chardy 6 - 3, 3 - 6, 6 - 2, reports Efe.
Third - seeded Berdych defeated Australian Bernard Tomic 7 - 6 (4), 6 - 2 in 76 minutes.
Lopez played against Berdych 10 years ago in the same tournament, when the Spaniard won 6 - 0, 6 - 3.
