The Humane Society International and Blue Cross of Hyderabad on Monday launched training for 112 government veterinarians from Andhra Pradesh for spay/neuter surgery of dogs.
The 112 veterinarians have been divided into 7 batches and each batch will undergo a 14 - day training practical training at the Blue Cross of Hyderabad facility till July. A More 2, 300 dogs in Hyderabad will be sterilised and vaccinated during this period.
As part of the training, HSI is providing experienced veterinarians as trainers, surgery equipment and a dog catching vehicle. Along with practical training, knowledge about best practices in pre and post - op care for dogs will also be given.
"Our goal is to train these government veterinarians to perform high - quality surgeries and share our best practices with them so that they can go back to their districts and replicate an effective and high - quality humane dog population program, " said HSI director Rahul Sehgal.
Blue Cross of Hyderabad chairperson Amala Akkineni hoped that Blue Cross would one day become a valuable resource for animal surgery for Andhra Pradesh and Telanana. She said they were committed to reducing stray animal population the humane way.
Popular actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, who is patron of Blue Cross, inaugurated the training programme in the presence of Animal Welfare Board of India vice chairman and Blue Cross of India chairman emeritus Chinny Krishna, Andhra's princiopal Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Manmohan Singh, and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's Chief Veterinary Officer Venkateshwar Reddy.
