From robocops to accident predictions and traffic alleviation, huge investments are being put into artificial intelligence by the Dubai Police, it was announced on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Intersec security conference in Dubai, Khaled Al Razooqi, director general of AI at Dubai Police and a board member of Dubai Smart City, painted an image of the city of the future, which will be led and controlled by an array of intelligent machines.
"We have a new service that will learn requirements to drive happiness and we will also target traffic, " he said. All Government departments have been tasked to drive happiness by providing the most seamless services.
"Dubai has an increasing number of vehicles and every person from each nationality has their own way of driving. So with UAE car manufacturers, we will install sensors to study the behaviour of drivers and see how we can teach them the best way to drive. "
New cameras will also detect traffic violations, including speeding. The fully analytical system will be integrated in the field. "Vehicles will instruct police where they should cover based on data we have, and perhaps where there is crime.
"We want to be the smartest police force in the world with the smartest employees and happy residents. "
The force is also working closely with Google to upload traffic pictures and launch its own Robocop, which is still in the testing phase.
"It will interact with people and answer their questions, and will be available across all areas of Dubai, " Mr Al Razooqi said.
