He is the former governor of Riyadh who was detained last year as part of Saudi Arabia’s widespread crackdown on corruption.
However, Prince Turki bin Abdullah is also a good friend of Elijah Blue Allman, the son of pop star Cher — who has taken to social media to appeal for his release.
In a tweet addressed to the kingdom’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Believe singer revealed she is “worried” for the “young prince with a kind heart”.
“Elijah is heartbroken and speaks so fondly of Turki, ” the American star continued.
“My [prayer emoticon] to Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman al Saud; be kind to Turki and let him go free. ”
The 71 - year - old hitmaker, who has also starred in several movies, added “inshallah I would speak for him”.
Prince Turki was among more than 300 businessmen, royals and government officials subpoenaed under a royal order issued in November, according to Gulf Business.
While many have since been released after settling with authorities, the kingdom’s attorney general said in January that 56 individuals remained in custody.
