In Nepal the 3rd anniversary of devastating earthquake of 2015 is being observed today.
A number of programmes have been organised in various parts of Nepal to pay homage to the victims of deadliest earth quake of the country.
A prayer meeting was held at the ruins of famous Dharahara tower in Kathmandu this morning. Hundreds of people including Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli visited the world heritage site and paid tribute to the people, who lost their lives, in Gorkha earth quake.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that tragedy of earthquake, human casualties and physical infrastructure damage caused by the earthquake still saddened her.
In a tweet she has drawn attention of the concerned authorities towards the urgent need of reconstruction. President Bhandari also expressed heartfelt condolences to the people who lost their valuable lives in the disaster.
Around 9000 people were killed and more than 21000 injured in catastrophic earthquake of 7. 6 magnitude on 25 April, 2015, followed by hundreds of aftershocks. It had affected lives of more than eight million people and hundreds of thousands of Nepalese were made homeless.
The ruinous earthquake had also destroyed centuries old buildings at UNESCO world heritage sites in the Kathmandu valley.
