The Election Commission on Tuesday said it was looking into a complaint made by the CPI - M accusing a Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member and West Bengal assembly polls candidate of trying to influence the final phase using police.
"We have received a complaint and are looking into the matter, " additional chief electoral officer Dibyendu Sarkar said.
In a memorandum to the EC, the Communist Party of India - Marxist alleged that Trinamool Lok Sabha member Suvendu Adhikari held a secret meeting in the intervening night of May 1 - 2 with officers - in - charge (OCs) of five police stations in East Midnapore district with a motive to disrupt the polling process on May 5.
"The decision taken in the secret meeting is that the OCs will supply liquor and meat to the central security forces.
The money required for the purpose will be supplied by Adhikari, " read the memorandum.
Claiming that the East Midnapore police superintendent was verbally informed about the "conspiracy", the CPI - M sought the EC's intervention into the matter including the removal of the OCs.
CPI - M state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra said the secret meeting was held at 1 a. m. on May 2 at the Panskura Banamali College.
The Trinamool has denied the allegations.
Adhikari is contesting from the Nandigram assembly constituency in East Midnapore.
A total of 25 constituencies in Cooch Behar and East Midnapore districts will go to the polls on May 5 in the last phase.
