Brazilian operator Vivo has activated 4G mobile connectivity on the 700 MHz frequency in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The use of this spectrum range will improve indoor and outdoor coverage and offering a better service to the operator's customers. Since 2013, the municipality has had 4G reception on the 2, 600 MHz frequency, the first available band for LTE in Brazil.
More than half of its transmitters site, scattered throughout the city, are already set to receive 4G on the new frequency, hitherto used by analogue TV and radio broadcasters. Vivo has been offering Rio de Janeiro access to 4. 5G (commercially known as 4G+), which allows traffic at speeds up to twice as fast as conventional the 4G, since 2016.
