Indonesia has taken silver after bowing out to Qatar in the men’s beach volleyball final held on Tuesday at Jakabaring Sports City in Palembang, South Sumatra.
The two teams exchanged hard - hit spikes but Qatar successfully made use of a hole in Indonesia’s defense, which appeared to get weaker in the second set. Qatar won both sets 26 - 24 and 21 - 17.
The first set ended in 24 minutes and the second ended in 22 minutes.
In the first set, Indonesian duo Ade Candra Rachmawan and Mohammad Ashfiya briefly led as they successfully penetrated Qatar’s solid defense through tipping, an off - speed attack aiming to trick the opponent, leading to the tight score in the first set. In the second, however, Qatar, was able to read Indonesia's strategy and was able to anticipate such attacks.
Qatar’s defense was impenetrable. Indonesia occasionally made successful blocks to add to its score here and there, but it wasn’t enough. Qatar was able to handle Indonesia’s attacks and spikes while they continued deploying downward spikes. Indonesia’s defense grew weaker by the second set, clearing Qatar's path to glory.
Meanwhile, another Indonesia’s men’s team, which played earlier on Tuesday, won a bronze after defeating China 2 - 1.
