French President Emmanuel Macron is facing criticism over his decision to close a room for the press in the Elysee Presidential Palace.
France's Presidential Press Association, which represents both French and foreign accredited media, issued a statement Thursday criticizing Macron for closing the room.
The press association said it didn't understand why "the non - intrusive presence of journalists in the heart of the palace disturbs, " according to Bloomberg.
“At a time (the press) is attacked from all fronts, this unilateral decision is incomprehensible and unacceptable, ” the group said in a statement.
The Elysee has said a new press room, set up outside the presidential palace, will be finished by year's end.
The office said late Wednesday that it would go through with the plans, initially announced earlier this year, to move the press outside the presidential palace.
The Elysee explained that the new press room will be an upgrade over the previous set up.
“This new press room will offer improved working conditions for a greater number of journalists, ” Macron’s office said.
