Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington next week, a senior US administration official has described the US - India relationship as of incredible significance to the world.
"The US - Indian relationship is of incredible significance, not only to the region but to the world, " US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner said in his daily media briefing on Thursday.
"We have a broad bilateral and multilateral relationship with India and look forward to engaging on all those issues, " he said.
Describing the breadth of the US - Indian relationship as wide, Toner said it addressed security and has got a strong economic component.
"We're looking to build closer relationships across the board with India, because we see it as a vital partner in the region, " he said.
Modi will visit Washington on June 7 - 8 during the course of which he will meet US President Barack Obama and address a joint meeting of the US Congress.
