No article is used before proper nouns. (names of people, places and things) An America (wrong) The USA(right.. United States of America is a name of a union) An England (wrong) The UK (United Kingdom) _right.

That means singular countable proper nouns never take any article. If they are expressed as a group or a union they take articles.
