To denote singular countable Nouns in the present simple we use 'is' as the main verb. He is my friend. She is my sister. (main verb) If there is a main verb, it is used in the present simple continuous tense. He is doing a great job. She is reading a book. (main verb) In the passive "Is" is used in present continuous along with v3. A great job is being done by him. A book is being read by her.
