Both are incorrect. 2nd one has only one mistake. he reached at the airport. or if he just landed then .. he arrived at the airport. was is mostly used with onging task in past (past continues ) like- rahul was going to school. the sentence you picked is past indefinite. you should study tenses to clear your doubts.
