can u explain wat is the difference between I saw john last week and I have seen john this week

I saw John in the last week. (I met him but I don't know where he is now_ past simple) I have seen John recently /this week. (I met him and I know where he is) That is the difference of the both sentences. Present perfect always has some impact on the present.. But not the past simple.
