![]() Examples of Double Negatives..... Double negatives are two negative words used in the same sentence. Using two negatives turns the thought or sentence into a positive one. Double negatives are not encouraged in English because they are poor grammar and they can be confusing; but, they are sometimes used in song lyrics and information. In some languages, such as Russian, a double negative is still a negative. However, there is no language wherein a double positive can form a negative." - A voice from the back of the room piped up, "Yeah, right." ... The jokey sense seems designed to get people out of the box within which "double negatives" are forbidden.
