 There are few facts regarding to your question. Alfred Nobel didn't have interest in mathematics. He wanted to award for practical inventions. According to his point of view maths was too theoretical. At the same time there was a famous award which was conducted by Swedish monarch Oscar 2nd. he didn't want to compete with king.
