To determine whether a word is an adverb or not, you say ask question how, where, when etc.. Eg. Q. How does she look? A. She looks beautiful. In this case beautiful is an adjective not adverb. Please explain.

in very next your doubt is going to be clear as it is mentioned. as per your doubt if there is no direct object than only adjective is to be used after verb.
