When a word begins with the letter "h", which is better to use "a" or "an"?

In English, there's much emphasis on the sound when we have to choose an article. If the word starts with a consonant but has a vowel sound, then we use 'an'. But if it has a consonant sound, then we use 'a'. E.g. A history book, an honest (h silent) man, an hour (h silent), a horse.

Both 'a and an' are suitable for the words starting with 'h'. It depends upon the sound. Example:- 1) For hour we spell it as 'our', so we use 'an'. 2) For hat we spell it as 'hat' only, so we use 'a'.
