what is the figures of speech? plz someone explain me

"Figure of speech" is a speech that goes beyond the original , literal meaning in order to supply new effects or a fresh approach into an idea or a subject. ex...If a person says that he is starving , he does not mean that he is in fact "dying of hunger", but that is very hungry. The earth looks like a balloon. she looks like her father. The above two sentences are "simile" as we used word "like" I have a million things to do today. It was so cold , I saw polar bears wearing hats and jackets. In the above two sentences we exaggerated the sentences so they are "hyperbole". it

A figure of speech is a word or phrase that possesses a separate meaning from its literal definition. Some examples... 1. Nick needed new notebooks. 2. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness. 3. For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore.  4. 'Fell of the back of a truck' instead of stolen. 5. I've told you to stop a thousand times.
