Polio is a disease that damages the motor nerves of the central nervous system, that is of brain and spinal cord, of the children between 8 months and 5 years. As a result, the person becomes unconscious. To prevent this disease, the children between 8 months and 5 years are given a specialised vaccine, OPV (Oral polio vaccine). In fact, India is now free from polio.
