The government on Friday said Delhi Police will act against the lawyers accused of assaulting journalists and students in a court here during the hearing of jailed student leader Kanhaiya Kumar who was also beaten up.
Minister of Communication and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad told a TV channel condemned that violence that erupted in the Patiala House Court on Monday and Wednesday when it heard the sedition case against Kanhaiya Kumar - - held on charges of sedition.
"The police will act. . . as per the law, " the minister said.
Kanhaiya Kumar was also allegedly assaulted by some lawyers on Wednesday when he was brought to the court. The student leader was arrested on February 12 for allegedly shouting anti - India slogans in a meeting on Kashmir at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus.
The minister also condemned the alleged beating of a Communist Party of India (CPI) activist by O. P. Sharma, a BJP legislator in Delhi, outside the court on Monday.
"No one is supporting and condoning the behaviour of O. P. Sharma, " Prasad said, adding that the accused BJP leader had surrendered before the police and was let out on bail.
