minister in the Congress led UPA government, Vasan broke away from the Congress in 2014 and floated TMC.
Since then he was supportive of the J. Jayalalithaa led AIADMK government and hoped to join the AIADMK alliance.

Vasan was also wooed by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
After days of suspense he finally joined hands with DMDK PWF alliance.
