The government has chalked out elaborate programs to launch the Bangladesh's first satellite - Bangabandhu - 1 amid sheer festive atmosphere across the country.
Apart from central inaugural functions, colorful balloons will be flown and firecrackers will be burst in the upazilas, districts and divisional towns, said a Telecommunication department official.
Expenditure of the celebration program has been estimated Tk 16 crores.
The telecommunication department is set to introduce a postal ticket, bearing the memories of Bangladesh' first ever satellite launching.
The satellite is scheduled to be launched on March 26 - 31, said Telecommunication and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar.
Bangabandhu - 1 is expected to provide services to all South Asian countries as well as Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, if its frequency is properly coordinated, according to project documents.
The lifespan of the satellite will be 15 years, which will allow the country to earn $1 billion by leasing out the transponders and another $1. 5 billion by selling other services.
