Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy on Friday sought a discussion in the upper house of parliament on "paid news".
Swamy, raising the issue in the upper house during Zero Hour, said a report from the Standing Committee on Information and Technology had dealt with the issues arising from paid news.
"This paid news has acquired the character of cancer, " Swamy said.
"In the AgustaWestland deal also, one channel published a contract signed with a middleman with a company for managing the India press for producing favourable reports on the deal, " he said.
"This is such an important matter, it should be discussed in a short duration discussion in the house, " he added.
