More than 50 percent of people voted to leave the EU . The European Union is a political group of 28 European countries including France, Germany, Italy, Finland, the UK, and Ireland.
It is governed by a council represented by a member from each country and the common currency 'euro' is used by all the members.
But Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May, asked for an extension and then EU leaders agreed to extend the Article 50 further and the current Brexit date is 12 April 2019.
The issue was in a clause in the agreement between EU and UK that would mean the U. K. would remain in a customs arrangement with the E. U. if a permanent solution was not found within the negotiating period.
Both the UK government and the EU governing bodies clearly prefer to split with a deal and a more gradual separation process. The deal in particular states how much money the UK owes the EU and the terms under which the estimated £39 billion will be paid.
The deal also states about the existing residency and working rights of UK citizens living in the EU and of the EU citizens living in the UK until the end of the Brexit implementation period that is set for 31 December 2020.
Theresa May's deal cannot come into effect until it has been passed by Parliament. On 27 March 2019, Theresa May vowed to resign as Prime Minister if her Brexit agreement passes through Parliament.
