The Defence Ministry on Thursday said the ongoing unrest in the Kashmir Valley has adversely affected road construction activities of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
"Owing to restrictions on the movement of vehicles and persons, desired progress could not be made and as a result many appreciated targets perforce will have to be revised, " it said in a statement here.
According to the ministry, four - laning on the Srinagar - Baramulla - Uri Road, scheduled for completion by July 2016, has been delayed.
"Handing over of the Sinathan Pass - Anantnag Road to the National Highway Authority of India will be postponed as the pending work will now go beyond the planned September 2016 deadline, " said the statement.
"In addition, many vehicles and equipment have been damaged, non - availability of which will directly affect the working.
The most affected locations where delay/loss of work has been seen are Tangdhar, Anantnag, Kupwara and Bandipur sectors, " the ministry said.
Majority of non - local labourers from the valley have moved out in search of livelihood due to continuous disturbance in the state.
The ministry said the movement and shifting of material to forward areas have also hampered work in Ladakh region, which will severely impinge on completion of strategic roads and spending of allotted funds.
