Activists from many parts of India marched here on Thursday to demand judicial reforms to cut delays and ensure speedy trials.

The initiative by Forum for Fast Justice will see the activists gather at Jantar Mantar in the heart of New Delhi on Friday.
Forum convener Pravin Patel told IANS: "For decades successive governments have been dilly dallying and creating hurdles in the way of fundamental reforms in the justice system despite directives of the apex court to increase the number of judges.
"We seem to attach no particular importance to constitutional guarantees  of fair and speedy trials and fast dispensation of justice. Justice delayed is justice denied.
The rallyists marched from the Agra Civil Court to the Shaheed Smarak at the Sanjay Place commercial complex, carrying placards and banners.
India Rising president Anand Rai said crores of cases were pending in courts all over India.
"The scenario is pathetic. We have only 10. judges per million while the US has 107, Canada 75 and England 51. The Supreme Court itself is short of 443 judges, Rai said.
If reforms were not initiated, the total number of cases piling up in various courts will touch 15 crore by 2040, added another activist, Pravin Patel.
